Inspiration In The Everyday

July 28, 2016

It is indeed a strange and wonderful thing, inspiration. And exasperating too, sometimes! We can wait days and weeks and even years for inspiration to appear, or it can come in the blink of an eye.  For our second range, we wanted to focus on something all of us can identify with, something we do and practice on the daily. There were many sleepless nights (!), discarded ideas, duas and prayers. And then it occurred to us, how big a part the concept of Salam or Peace plays in our lives. The word Islam, itself, means peaceful and willing submission. We greet one another by wishing peace. And in a wider role, we wish for peace, the existence of an ideal society, Dar-As Salaam,... We had the opportunity to open a booth at two conferences which took place recently at Putrajaya International Convention Centre, Putrajaya, Malaysia. First was Ilmfest, on 16th and 17th May. It was the first time we were showing our bags to the public, so it was quite nerve-wracking! In the end, though, it turned out to be a lovely experience as we met so many lovely visitors to the booth.     The second was the Being ME conference on 13th June 2015, a women only conference which this year is entitled Love, Aisha. Again, we had lots of fun meeting the other booth participants and were beginning to feel like old hands in the conference circuit (ha!) In the future,... Continue Reading →

And So It Begins

May 01, 2015

Welcome to the Hessa website! It’s been an interesting journey, from a teeny, tiny idea taking root and setting up camp in the brain and refusing to let go, all the way to this, the lovely realization of a dream. We wouldn’t change a single thing though, for hurdles and obstacles teach us that some things are worth it.   We hope to bring out something for everyone, from totes to slings to backpacks and everything in between. It might take a while though, so please bear with us. After all, good things come to those who wait!    In the meantime, we hope you like what we currently have on offer. All feedback and suggestions warmly welcomed, so write away!... Continue Reading →

Our charity of the month for November is the Myanmar Emergency Appeal by Muslim Aid. The crisis in Myanmar/Burma has been going on for a long time, too long, and recently has escalated even further. More than 200,00 people have been displaced by the conflict and are in desperate need of shelter, food and water. Muslim Aid has been on the ground in Myanmar since 2012, providing emergency support and assistance in Myanmar in the form of food and essential items and medical treatment.   We have made a donation on behalf of our November purchasers, jazakillahu khairan for your kindness!   You can find more information about the Myanmar Appeal at the Muslim Aid Facebook page here and can... Assalamualaikum  :) For the month of October 2016, we have made a donation on behalf of our purchasers to the Telekung Project. The Telekung Project started out as a small initiative in 2011, to provide prayer attire or telekung to the needy. They are now a registered NGO and has launched various charitable drives such as Building Repair 4 Ukhwah (repairing a madrasa in Cambodia), Solat Kit, Food Aid 4 Ukhwah, Winter Aid 4 Ukhwah and many more. The sadaqah we have given is specifically for the Al Quran 4 Ukhwah, to provide copies of the al Quran and tafseer in Japanese to the mosque in Kobe, Japan. Our new brothers and sisters there need the tafseer to learn more... Continue Reading →

A smile is charity and it is sunnah. And indeed, what is more beautiful than the smile of a child? Sadly, every 3 minutes, one child in the world is born with a cleft lip and cleft palate (estimated 1 in 500-750 births) , a condition where there is a gap in the mouth that didn't close during the early stages of pregnancy. Our charity of the month for September 2016, Operation Smile, is a charity founded in 1982 which provides medical assistance for cleft lip and palate patients, both children and adults, around the world.     A cleft lip and palate surgery costs as low as USD240, thanks to the generous contributions of medical professionals who volunteer their time, as well as... In August 2016, RM10 from the purchase of each bag will be channeled to Islamic Relief Malaysia's Al-Quran Braille Waqaf programme.     A joint collaboration between Islamic Relief Malaysia and the Malaysian Muslim Association for the Blind (PERTIS), this programme raises funds to publish the al-Quran in Braille and to distribute them to the visually impaired all over Malaysia.    A sum of RM210 is required to print one Al-Quran in Braille, which consists of six volumes and 5 chapters in each volume. Printed by PERTIS itself, each copy of the Al-Quran unfortunately can only last for about 5 years.  Most of the time, we do take our sight for granted. This programme is a great opportunity to ensure that... Continue Reading →
