Inspiration In The Everyday

July 28, 2016

It is indeed a strange and wonderful thing, inspiration. And exasperating too, sometimes! We can wait days and weeks and even years for inspiration to appear, or it can come in the blink of an eye.  For our second range, we wanted to focus on something all of us can identify with, something we do and practice on the daily. There were many sleepless nights (!), discarded ideas, duas and prayers. And then it occurred to us, how big a part the concept of Salam or Peace plays in our lives. The word Islam, itself, means peaceful and willing submission. We greet one another by wishing peace. And in a wider role, we wish for peace, the existence of an ideal society, Dar-As Salaam,... Baby Steps

We had the opportunity to open a booth at two conferences which took place recently at Putrajaya International Convention Centre, Putrajaya, Malaysia. First was Ilmfest, on 16th and 17th May. It was the first time we were showing our bags to the public, so it was quite nerve-wracking! In the end, though, it turned out to be a lovely experience as we met so many lovely visitors to the booth.     The second was the Being ME conference on 13th June 2015, a women only conference which this year is entitled Love, Aisha. Again, we had lots of fun meeting the other booth participants and were beginning to feel like old hands in the conference circuit (ha!) In the future,... Continue Reading →

And So It Begins

May 01, 2015

Welcome to the Hessa website! It’s been an interesting journey, from a teeny, tiny idea taking root and setting up camp in the brain and refusing to let go, all the way to this, the lovely realization of a dream. We wouldn’t change a single thing though, for hurdles and obstacles teach us that some things are worth it.   We hope to bring out something for everyone, from totes to slings to backpacks and everything in between. It might take a while though, so please bear with us. After all, good things come to those who wait!    In the meantime, we hope you like what we currently have on offer. All feedback and suggestions warmly welcomed, so write away!... Continue Reading →

Assalamualaikum ... several countries in Africa are now facing their worst drought in almost 70 years, and there is now  a significant risk of starvation leading to “mass deaths”, according to United Nations. Four countries – Nigeria, Somalia, South Sudan and Yemen – stand on the brink of a new humanitarian crisis brought about by drought and famine. For the month of March, our charity of the month is the Ummah Welfare Trust's Africa Drought Appeal. We chose Ummah Welfare Trust for their 100% donations policy, every penny of Zakah, Sadaqah and Lillah received is used strictly for charitable purposes. According to the charity, "Ummah Welfare Trust has been working through 2016 delivering food to drought-hit families in Ethiopia, North Somalia,... Continue Reading →

This February, we have chosen as our charity of the month, the Turkish charity IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation. We first heard of the charity when Mufti Ismail Menk visited the border between Turkey and Syria and highlighted the plight of the refugees there. IHH was set up in 1992, and aimed to deliver aid to everyone in need, such as victims of war, natural disaster, or those wounded, crippled, starved, homeless and persecuted, regardless of religion, language, race or sect. So far they have provided aid in 135 countries and territories, and counting. Besides providing shelter, food and medical services to Syrian refugees, IHH also provides emergency aid to Gaza, East Turkestan, Rohingya and Iraq. In addition, they also have specific...
