On Friday, 28 September 2018, a 7.5 magnitude earthquake hit Sulawesi, Indonesia, unleashing a tsunami that hurled water as high as 20 feet over the city of Palu. The death toll so far has reached almost 1,500 and due to increase. Meanwhile, people are starving, shops have been looted and the danger of disease is imminent.
Our charity of the month is GlobalGiving, and specifically their Indonesia Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund
GlobalGiving is the largest global crowdfunding community connecting non-profit organizations, donors and companies in nearly every country in the world. Since 2002, they have helped raise more than USD350 million, and provided aid in 170 countries. They partner with non-profit organisations in different countries, and post the projects that are really needed.
Their Disaster Recovery Network under Global Giving, channels donations and grants directly to the areas that need help and aid. By giving these donations directly to local organizations, who are on the ground and understand the community better than anyone else, they're ensuring help will be given exactly where it's needed.
We pray that Allah s.w.t. ease the suffering of our brothers and sisters in Sulawesi, and that they will overcome this disaster with enduring faith and patience. Let's help in any way we can to lighten their burden.
