We bid goodbye to 2016 with a truly amazing charity for December, Medecins sans Frontieres (MSF) or Doctors Without Borders.
Founded in 1971, MSF is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare. MSF offers assistance to people based on need, irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation.
MSF's healthcare personnel and other staff currently work in 69 countries worldwide, including Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Chad and Libya. In 2015 alone, they have treated over 2 million patients for malaria, rescued and assisted over 23,000 migrants and refugees at sea and assisted in over 200,000 births.
The following photos show the amazing work they do, there are more photos and further information at their website here.
Jazakumullahu khairan for all of you who made a purchase in December, a donation has been made on your behalf.
Our charity of the month for November is the Myanmar Emergency Appeal by Muslim Aid.
The crisis in Myanmar/Burma has been going on for a long time, too long, and recently has escalated even further. More than 200,00 people have been displaced by the conflict and are in desperate need of shelter, food and water.
Muslim Aid has been on the ground in Myanmar since 2012, providing emergency support and assistance in Myanmar in the form of food and essential items and medical treatment.
We have made a donation on behalf of our November purchasers, jazakillahu khairan for your kindness!
May Allah protect them and keep them safe, ameen.
For the month of October 2016, we have made a donation on behalf of our purchasers to the Telekung Project. The Telekung Project started out as a small initiative in 2011, to provide prayer attire or telekung to the needy. They are now a registered NGO and has launched various charitable drives such as Building Repair 4 Ukhwah (repairing a madrasa in Cambodia), Solat Kit, Food Aid 4 Ukhwah, Winter Aid 4 Ukhwah and many more.
The sadaqah we have given is specifically for the Al Quran 4 Ukhwah, to provide copies of the al Quran and tafseer in Japanese to the mosque in Kobe, Japan.
Our new brothers and sisters there need the tafseer to learn more about Islam, and the drive aimed to provide 100 copies to the mosque, together with solat kits, on 3 December 2016.
Alhamdulillah, they have exceed their initial target and received funds enough for 165 copies :)) This particular fund raising initiative is now closed, but you can be updated about their charitable activities by following their Facebook page here or their website here.
May Allah reward them for their amal and da'wah, and may Allah accept all good deeds from you and us, Insyaa Allah.
A smile is charity and it is sunnah.
And indeed, what is more beautiful than the smile of a child?
Sadly, every 3 minutes, one child in the world is born with a cleft lip and cleft palate (estimated 1 in 500-750 births) , a condition where there is a gap in the mouth that didn't close during the early stages of pregnancy. Our charity of the month for September 2016, Operation Smile, is a charity founded in 1982 which provides medical assistance for cleft lip and palate patients, both children and adults, around the world.
A cleft lip and palate surgery costs as low as USD240, thanks to the generous contributions of medical professionals who volunteer their time, as well as corporations that donate critical supplies and equipment necessary for safe surgery. The charity leads missions all around the world, and has provided hundreds and thousands of free sugeries to patients in over 60 countries.
You can read heartwarming stories of patients who have successfully undergone the surgery and how the operation has transformed their lives, at the Operation Smile website here.
We have a made a donation on behalf of our September purchasers, jazakumullahu khairan for your generosity!
In August 2016, RM10 from the purchase of each bag will be channeled to Islamic Relief Malaysia's Al-Quran Braille Waqaf programme.
A joint collaboration between Islamic Relief Malaysia and the Malaysian Muslim Association for the Blind (PERTIS), this programme raises funds to publish the al-Quran in Braille and to distribute them to the visually impaired all over Malaysia.
A sum of RM210 is required to print one Al-Quran in Braille, which consists of six volumes and 5 chapters in each volume. Printed by PERTIS itself, each copy of the Al-Quran unfortunately can only last for about 5 years.
Most of the time, we do take our sight for granted. This programme is a great opportunity to ensure that those less fortunate can also have their own copy of the Quran. If you are able, please donate to this worthy endeavour and let's make sure there is a copy of the Quran available for any one of us who wish to read it, whatever our circumstances may be.
You can visit the Islamic Relief Al-Quran Braille Waqaf programme and donation page here.
If we live in areas where water is abundant, most of the time we do take it for granted. It's hard to imagine life where clean water is a precious commodity, where we have to walk miles every day just to find water for our families. Yet that is a reality for many in some parts of the world.
Our Charity of the Month for July is charity:water, a US-based non-profit organization whose mission is to bring clean and safe drinking water to every person on the planet. Besides the tremendous work that they do, we also appreciate the fact that 100% percent of donations are used to fund water projects.
So far they have funded over 20,000 water projects in 24 countries, and counting. They not only fund new projects, but also ensure that past projects are well maintained, by forging close relationships with the community and local partners.
Give generously, and give from the heart! :)))
Our charity of the month for June 2016, is the UK based charity, Help Refugees.
The refugee crisis has worsened, and it estimated that more than 60 million people have been displaced from their homes. Help Refugees assists by providing aid & upholding dignity for refugees and works fast to send aid & assistance to refugees across Europe, including basic aid (food/clothes), sanitation, medical aid, volunteer support, shelters, search & rescue and outreach work.
So far they have sent aid by lorry to places including Greece, Calais, Macedonia and Serbia and built shelters in refugee camp in Calais, among other initiatives, and hope to do even more in the future to help wherever they can.
RM10 from the purchase of bags in June has been donated to the Help Refugees charity and our ongoing Orphan Sponsorship. Jazakumullahu khairan to our purchasers!
For May 2016, our charity of the month is Ukhwah For Ummah, a Malaysian charity assisting Fundación Mezquita de Sevilla raise funds to build a mosque in Spain. RM10 from the sale of each bag has been divided among this charity and our ongoing Orphan Sponsorship program.
Although Southern Spain has a rich Islamic history, unfortunately only vestiges remain and our Muslim brothers and sisters in Seville currently has had to make do with a musolla. A site has been identified for a mosque over several floors, which will Insyaa Allah provide ample space for worship.
Rasulullah s.a.w. said, ‘Whoever builds a masjid (mosque) in which the Name of Allah is mentioned, Allah will build a house for him in Paradise.’” Let us all help with the "A Tile For Seville" campaign, and may Allah receive all our good deeds and may He bless us in this life and the hereafter.
Our Charity of the month for April 2016 is Hidayah Centre Foundation. RM10 from each bag purchased in April has been donated on behalf of our purchasers.
Hidayah Centre was established in 2012, and aims to assist reverts to Islam and their families. Our new Muslim brothers and sisters need all the assistance we can give, in terms of knowledge, friendship and financial help. The Centre holds weekly classes in all aspects of Islam as well as gatherings, pays visits to reverts' homes, and also organises fundraising activities.
"There is a reward for kindness to every living thing" - Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.
Here at Hessa, we love all of Allah's creatures, big and small. And so, for this month, the RM10 collected from the purchase of each bag will be donated to PAWS.
PAWS or the Paws Animal Welfare Society has been helping animals since 1997 from their location in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. They receive the surrender of unwanted dogs and cats (and occasionally rabbits too!), vaccinate, deworm, neuter/spay them, and put these little animals up for adoption. They hold regular adoption drives and also hold talks about animal welfare.
And last but not least, here are photos of our cat Ben, who was adopted from Paws 7 years ago and has brightened up our lives since. Remember, adopt don't shop! :)))
